We need external peace, or the peace that is the absence of conflict or war. But what we really need is internal peace, the peace from the turmoil resulting from your own thoughts or inner suffering. Are you experiencing a lack of peace because of a recent loss? A conflict with an important person in your life? The inner demons of guilt, depression, a lack of self worth, loneliness?
Joy during Sorrow
We all experience loss: loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, loss of health or wealth. Wars, poverty, and even a pandemic surround us. All these circumstances cause sorrow. But we can still have joy!

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a Republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its Flag; and to defend it against enemies.
